Permanent Total Disability

If you suffered a permanent disability as the result of an on-the-job injury, you may be able to receive permanent disability benefits. These benefits can help you survive financially when you are unable to work. Let the experienced attorneys at Meshbesher Law Firm help you secure the disability benefits you need.

Types Of Permanent Disability

If you cannot continue working because of your injuries from a workplace accident, you may qualify for one of two types of permanent disability. To assess the lasting damage from an on-the-job injury or work-related illness, doctors use a permanent disability rating. Often your employer or their workers’ compensation insurance company will request an independent examination to assess your impairment level.

  • Permanent partial disability (PPD) – You must show that you have suffered a permanent loss of use or function caused or substantially contributed to by a work-related injury. This benefit is separate from wage loss benefits.
  • Permanent total disability (PTD) – PTD is paid when an employee is totally incapacitated from working at an occupation which brings him/her an income. For injuries occurring after Oct. 1, 1995, the injured employee must meet certain established thresholds of permanent partial disability.
