Cervical Spine Injuries

Your cervical spine is your neck area, and any injuries to that part of your body can be quite severe. A fall at work or a car accident can cause serious damage to your cervical spine. If you suffered a neck injury stemming from the negligent actions of someone else, Meshbesher Law Firm can help.

Types Of Cervical Spine Injuries

Any accident that causes your head to snap back and forth or other trauma to your neck can result in a cervical spine injury. Common injuries include:

  • Fracture – A crack in one of the bones of the cervical spine
  • Dislocation – Various components of the spine may dislocate, such as the vertebrae, discs, etc.
  • Whiplash – This is when the neck becomes hyperextended and then snaps back into place very quickly, causing symptoms that can come about days, weeks or months later
  • Flexion injuries – Ligaments can rupture, bones can fracture and the spinal cord itself can become severely damaged
  • Extension injuries – Typically fractures, such as “Hangman’s Fracture”
  • Axial compression injuries – a fracture in the C1 that can involve multiple fractures

Treatments

Complications from a cervical spine injury can include paralysis from the neck down or stability issues. Some accident victims are confined to wheelchairs because the spinal cord was severed. Others may have issues moving their head. No matter how minor or severe the injury, physical therapy is needed to help a person recover as much as possible.

Sometimes, physical therapy will only do so much, and a person may plateau in their recovery. This means they may not get any better beyond a certain point. This can be very expensive, and insurance companies will not always pay if someone else is responsible for the injury.
